Say no to friction

Porosity: ability of the hair to absorb water

Texture: the diameter of the hair shaft

Oxidized hair fiber: occurs when environment, water, chemicals, sun breakdown the hair fiber and damage breakdown the cuticle and results in brassy looking hair. Causes hair to become dry brittle and porous.

Lifestyle: Dehydration and vitamin deficiencies will negatively affect your scalp and hair.

Hormones: affect cells. A decline in estrogen may reduce curl helix formation

Climate: Atmospheric conditions can draw moisture TOWARD or AWAY  from hair. Winter weather has no moisture in the air. It is arid. Certain humectants will pull moisture towards the dry air. Thus drying out your hair. Welcome to Canada. Known as the North and as a polar desert climate.

To keep your swaves, waves, curls, and coils healthy, shiny, and bouncy, here are a few tips:

  1. Sleep with a satin or silk pillow case.
Less friction is better! Cotton will remove or absorb moisture from your hair. Curls need moisture. Or Pineapple.
  2. Wash when needed.  Keep your scalp clean and moisturized.
Think of Your scalp as being a continuation of your face. But it’s actually more fragile. You want to keep those follicles clean and hydrated. Remember that your locks need water, so do you and so does your scalp. Start with water and end with water!
  3. Trim bimonthly.
Or every 3 months if you're growing it out. This is the max amount of time to wait. If you wait any longer you risk split ends that will be too deep to save. Especially if you color! Color is great to accentuate curls. Just respect it and know your limits. Trust a curl expert.
  4. FOR A DRY SCALP
Winter time always means dryness. To combat this, use our Cream cleanser. And remember to use conditioner. You can also pre oil your scalp with one of our Skin oils pre cleanse. And use a T-shirt to plop or to blott.
  5. Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate! FROM THE INSIDE & THE OUTSIDE! This means drink your water, and remember don’t wait to long to wash. Refresh with a water based product daily.
It is difficult to hydrate from the outside during dry times. A humidifier and water softener will do wonders though!
  6. Cleanse first then: Always moisturize with either of our conditioners.
  1. Add your favourite curl cream, curl gel, or both to drenched locks, finger comb through, pushing up and into your hair!
  2. Pulse hand fulls of curls in an upward motion. If your curls are frizzier or if your cut has been thinned out for you, use the praying hands method first pulse &  squeeze. If your curls are still skinny or stringy, you didn’t start with enough water.
  3. Towel blot, or plop. Spray mega moisture to seal. Hover diffuse to get a good cast. When dry Shake from the root. For added volume roll your fingers in circles at the root.

Ask for CURLYLIGHTS so that your LOCKS will pop with some brightness and colour. A curl expert will be able to analyze your curls to determine the right process for you. They will follow with the prescribed treatment to close down the cuticle to ensure  nourishment and moisture.
